About

Meals On Wheels of Solano County's mission is to nourish and enrich the lives of seniors in Solano County with an emphasis on those ages 60 and older, by providing nutritious meals to active and home-bound people; thereby promoting their health, well being and independence.

Meals on Wheels of Solano County has been delivering meals to home-bound seniors in Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville and Vallejo since 1977. Today over 600 meals are prepared fresh and packaged for home delivery or delivery to our congregate sites on a daily basis.

The chief purpose of our organization is to serve senior clients, 60 years of age or older and who are frail or considered at-risk. Many of our clients rely on our program to provide their one healthy, substantial meal of the day. By providing a nutritious meal on a daily basis we are able to aid in the reduction of senior malnutrition, food insecurity and promote senior independence and socialization.

We are partially funded through the Older Americans Act. We are required to maintain an accountable and highly monitored food program. We are proud to serve nourishing and good tasting food. We are not able to accept food donations.

We do need the supplies that are listed below and would be a great help if individuals could donate.
  • Freeze Packs
  • 48-qt. Chest Coolers
  • Insulated Bags
  • Office Supplies
For more information on these items and what kind we are in need of please click under the images below.

Their Mission

To nourish and enrich the lives of seniors in Solano County with an emphasis on those ages 60 and older, by providing nutritious meals to active and home-bound people; thereby promoting their health, well being and independence.
We Are In Need Of Chest Coolers!

We desperately need 48Qt. coolers. These coolers are used everyday to deliver frozen meals to our clients.

Without these coolers we would not be able to maintain our program which feeds our home bound senior clients. In order to keep our food safe, it must stay frozen so coolers are the only way we can maintain the proper temperature.

We use on average of 50 coolers a day for all our routes that take us all throughout Solano County.
Our Kitchen

Meals on Wheels serves over 600 clients a day. We freshly prepare nutritious foods for our deliveries and follow strict food program standards in our kitchen in Suisun City, California. We provide these meals stretching over Solano County in Benicia, Dixon, Fairfield, Rio Vista, Suisun, Vacaville and Vallejo.

We do not ask for food donations.
We Are In Need Of Insulated Bags!

Along with coolers, we need large insulated bags (see picture). These are also  used for the delivery of our meals. They are insulated to hold milk and other perishable items that go along with the frozen meal.

We use over 60 insulated bags a day to cover all the routes we have to feed our seniors. These insulated bags can be purchased at K-Mart, Target, Costco and many other retail stores that offer camping and out door activities.
We Are In Need Of Freeze Packs!

We are in need of large and medium size freeze packs. We need these supplies in order to maintain proper temperature when transporting and storing food given to our clients.
We Are In Need Of Office Supplies!

We use black permanent markers everyday to mark bags, coolers and other equipment that is used for our deliveries. We also use duct tape to mark our equipment that is used everyday. These items add up!

For every meal we pack, we place a sticker on the top of the meal to note what the meal is, and the date it was packed and the "use by date". We use on average over 700 stickers a day and must keep them on hand at all times.

We specifically need Avery laser/inkjet white mailing labels- 5160/8160 or Staples laser/inkjet white mailing labels/18057. These labels are the only ones that will work correctly in our printer.

We also use copy paper everyday!

And of course...

We need cash donations, monetary donations to purchase raw food and gasoline... the most important and costly parts of our program!
